Music

WSMB has extensive expertise in the music business. Several of the firm’s attorneys were previously senior executives with labels, music publishers and online services. The firm has represented many well-known recording artists, songwriters and composers, as well as producers, managers and independent labels and publishers.

Film, Theater & TV

WSMB’s clients include producers, directors and financiers of both documentary and independent films, including such notable documentary producer/directors as Robert Duval and Cynthia Wade (winner of the 2008 Academy Award for the Best Short Documentary, awarded for her film “Freeheld”). The firm also represents producers of plays and musicals, both on and off-Broadway, as well as underlying rights holders for film, TV and theatrical productions.

Publishing

WSMB has negotiated and drafted book publishing and related agreements on behalf of authors and publishers, prepared contribution agreements, advised on copyrights and related permissions, and performed prepublication clearance reviews of books. We are intimately familiar with the laws of defamation, privacy and publicity that often arise in the publishing context as well as issues specific to digital media.
